Balancing Work and School With A Smile

Meet Elizabeth!

Current College Student & Community Outreach Coordinator at Lotus House
What was your experience like at Lotus House?
I really enjoyed my stay at Lotus House. There was such a positive vibe coming from the staff and the volunteers. While at Lotus House I was helped with tutoring and health services along with an array of resources. I was so blessed when Lotus gave me the opportunity to become one of the first Operations Manager Interns the summer before my Senior year of high school.
As an intern, I was one of the few people operating the UV sanitizing towers that were essential during the start of the pandemic in order to keep our facility clean and safe for our guests. Later on I helped train the operations team on how to properly use and handle them. After my internship came to an end, I was offered an Assistant Operations Manager position to which I accepted on the spot. After a year and a half, I was offered a new position as the Community Outreach Coordinator. This new position entails managing volunteers and organizing various community events that Lotus House holds throughout the year. I am extremely excited about this new position.

Can you tell us more about your life after you left Lotus House?
After I left Lotus House I was able to get an apartment and become an independent woman as well as graduating high school. I am attending college as a full time student as well as being employed full-time. Working and being a student full time isn’t easy but it is possible if you find a balance between the two.

What are you most looking forward to in 2022?
Expand my horizons and discover Miami more. Even as a Miami local, I look forward to seeing what the city has to offer.
