Alternative Pathways to Healing

Activities such as art, yoga, and meditation, are critical for women and children experiencing homelessness to heal as they provide a safe and supportive environment to explore emotions, release stress, and connect with others. These practices can promote physical and mental well-being, build resilience, and offer hope for a brighter future.

Programming

The programming spaces at Lotus House are activated thanks to volunteers who generously donate their time, skills, and energy to support our mission. From leading yoga classes and art workshops to providing childcare and administrative assistance, our volunteers play a vital role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for the women and children we serve, and in helping them heal, learn, and thrive.

Arts and Activities

The Lab offers a variety of artistic materials and tools for creative expression and exploration as a means of healing. The Lab’s ongoing collaborative relationships with artists and arts organizations provide additional support and foster a sense of community for those seeking alternative pathways to healing and creative expression.

The Farm

The Farm is a remarkable example of innovation that integrates the latest and growing technology of hydroponics through the Greenery™ (2019, Freight Farms, Inc.) with educational programming focused on trauma-informed practices for children and paid work-training opportunities for youth and adults residing at Lotus House.

Lotus Village Voices

Thanks to The Children’s Trust, our newest Innovation’s Project includes the establishment of a multipurpose creative studio space, the launch of the Lotus Village Voices podcast/vodcast, and several other goals such as amplifying marginalized voices, offering enhanced opportunities for creative expression, and building an audiovisual archive of Lotus House happenings to raise awareness and advocate for innovative solutions and best practices through digital storytelling.

Yoga and Meditation

The Wildflower Yoga & Meditation Room is where our guests are able to heal from within and allow them to express themselves through yoga, meditation, dance, movement, and more. Programming for kids including dance, kid yoga, kick boxing, imagination workshops, and more.

Healing Hands Salon

The Vivian Morera Healing Hands Salon offers an opportunity for our guests to restore both inner and outer beauty and a sense of self-worth after struggling on the streets. By providing a place to prep for an important interview, or to ensure that our youth and children do not stand out as uncared for when they go to school, we are working to build back the dignity and identity of our guests. The salon offers hair styling and nail appointments throughout the week to provide our guests with multiple opportunities for professional hair and nail care.

The Gardens

Lotus Village includes lush green landscapes, soothing waterscapes, fountains and gardens that offer quiet refuges throughout the shelter and community grounds. Everything green is an opportunity for learning, healing and growing.
