Volunteers play a pivotal role in everything we do at Lotus House by providing vital assistance to our daily operations and program support services, helping to provide a sense of normalcy.

Requirements

    • Age Requirements
      • The minimum age to volunteer is 8 years old and must have a parent or guardian present with them at all times
      • Anyone over 14 years old may volunteer without a parent or guardian present with them
  • For volunteer groups, we request that there be 1 adult for every 5 underage (14 and under) volunteers
  • Complete the Lotus House Volunteer Agreement
  • Complete required background checks after 10 hours of volunteering
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
    • For the health and safety of all Lotus House staff, volunteers, and guests, Lotus House now requires proof of receipt of the COVID-19 vaccination for any volunteer who will work inside of the Lotus Village or in direct contact with a Lotus House guests.

Signing up to Volunteer

  • Review the individual and group opportunities below and determine what area(s) you would like to support
  • Sign-up using the “Individual Opportunities” or “Group Opportunities” button
  • Once you complete the Google form, you will receive next steps from a Lotus House team member
  • After you have completed the required volunteer documentation, you will receive notification about scheduling
    • All volunteer days must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance

Community Service Letters

  • If you require a community service letter, please email victoriav@lotushouse.org  the following information:
    • Days/times service completed
    • Full name of volunteer
    • Any additional information that may be required by the school or organization
  • Please allow for 3-5 business for your request for a service letter to be completed

Individual opportunities

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Required
  • Administrative: helping our team with scanning, shredding, etc, Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm
  • Culinary: daily from 11-2pm and 5-8pm helping our culinary team with meal prep and serving
  • Programming: assisting with arts & crafts, gardening, outside time with the children, stem projects, organizing and disinfecting programming areas. Monday-Friday from 3-5:30pm and Sundays from 2-6pm
  • Education: afterschool homework assistance and tutoring. Monday-Friday from 3-5pm
  • Host an activity: If you have any skills or talents that you would like to share with the women or children, here’s your chance. This can be dance, yoga, arts & crafts, jewelry making, etc.
  • Host a workshop: assisting our guests with skills such as computer literacy, financial literacy, resume building, interviewing, etc
  • Thrift: help our team at Lotus House Thrift organize and inventory clothing donations for our guests. Saturday from 11-4pm

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination NOT Required

  • Community Distribution: distribution of food, hygiene products and other essential resources to the residents of Overtown. Hosted on March 26, June 4, August 6, December 17
  • Outdoor Operations: everyday assisting our operations team with cleaning and landscaping. Available for 2-3 hour time slots from 10-6pm

Group opportunities

Proof of receipt of the COVID-19 Vaccination Required

  • Operations: everyday assisting our operations team with cleaning and organizing. Available for 2-3 hour time slots from 10-6pm (8-10 individuals at a time)
